At Insurance Talent Group (ITG), we’re proud to be a Canadian company and there’s no better time to celebrate than Canada Day weekend. Whether you’re relaxing at home, heading to the cottage, or looking for family-friendly fun in the city, this long weekend is full of events that reflect the spirit, diversity, and energy of our country.

To help you make the most of it, we’ve rounded up some of the best things to do across Ontario. From fireworks to food trucks, music festivals to nature trails, here’s your guide to everything happening from June 28 to July 1.

Big Celebrations in Toronto

Toronto is packed with Canada Day festivities, with something happening in almost every corner of the city:

  • Harbourfront Centre will be hosting a weekend-long celebration featuring live music, cultural performances, vendor markets, and family-friendly programming—all set along the scenic waterfront.
  • Downsview Park is another top pick for families, with inflatable play zones, food trucks, community showcases, and a grand fireworks display to close out the night.
  • Mel Lastman Square in North York is hosting a classic celebration with live entertainment, games for kids, and one of the city’s best midtown fireworks shows.
  • Ashbridges Bay offers a more traditional experience—pack your beach chairs and find a spot on the sand for one of Toronto’s largest fireworks displays, beginning at 10 PM.
  • The Toronto Zoo will be offering special programming throughout the long weekend, including animal shows, scavenger hunts, and themed exhibits—perfect for families with young children.
  • Don’t forget about the Distillery District or St. Lawrence Market they may not have official events, but they’re full of patios, street performers, and local pride that always make for a memorable outing.

In the GTA and Surrounding Communities

Looking to celebrate just outside the city? The Greater Toronto Area has no shortage of fun:

  • Spencer Smith Park in Burlington will be buzzing with food vendors, live music, and a stunning waterfront fireworks show at 10 PM on July 1.
  • Centennial Park in Etobicoke plays host to the beloved Toronto Ribfest, which runs all weekend long. It’s a community favourite with BBQ competitions, amusement rides, and live bands.
  • Bayfront Park in Hamilton offers a relaxing, family-friendly atmosphere with open green space, local entertainment, and waterfront views.

Nature Escapes & Day Trips

If your idea of celebration includes a little more peace and greenery, Ontario’s provincial and national parks are calling:

  • Algonquin, Bruce Peninsula, and Georgian Bay Islands parks are all great options for hiking, paddling, and wildlife viewing. The Canada Strong Pass even provides free or discounted admission at many sites this weekend.
  • High Park in Toronto offers beautiful trails, a zoo, and open fields for a picnic or casual stroll.
  • For a cottage-country getaway, head to Muskoka, Blue Mountain, or even Pelee Island, where you’ll find small-town parades, fireworks, and a slower pace to unwind.

Community Celebrations Across Ontario

If you’re looking to explore something a little more local, several smaller communities go all out for Canada Day:

  • Brantford will host a full day of entertainment in Lions Park, including performances, circus acts, food trucks, and fireworks.
  • Port Hope, Amherstburg, Oshawa, Kitchener, and Waterloo all host vibrant community events with kid-friendly programming, parades, and fireworks displays.

These local festivals are often free, full of heart, and a great way to experience Canada Day the way it was meant to be—side by side with neighbors and families.
