SUMMARY:
- The Director, Private Client Personal Lines is responsible for leading and growing the high-net-worth and complex personal insurance portfolio.
- This role combines business development, portfolio management, carrier strategy, underwriting collaboration, and leadership of service personnel to deliver a best-in-class private client experience.
- The Director will be accountable for profitable growth, retention, market relationships, and positioning the firm as a premier advisor in the private client insurance space. The successful candidate will maintain and grow a significant personal book of business while providing strategic direction to the Private Client division.
- Develop and execute a strategic plan for the Private Client division.
- Build and grow a high-net-worth personal lines book of business (homes, secondary residences, seasonal properties, automobiles, watercraft, collections, umbrella, etc.).
- Identify and pursue referral partnerships (wealth advisors, lawyers, accountants, realtors, family offices).
- Position the brokerage as a specialist for complex and affluent risks.
- Establish production targets, retention benchmarks, and growth KPIs.
- Provide sophisticated insurance counsel to high-net-worth clients and families.
- Conduct comprehensive coverage audits and risk assessments.
- Design customized insurance programs including excess liability, specialty coverage, and layered structures.
- Oversee renewal strategy, remarketing, and carrier negotiations.
- Maintain high retention through proactive service and annual stewardship reviews.
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with key private client carriers.
- Negotiate underwriting authority, pricing flexibility, and strategic placement.
- Collaborate with underwriters on complex placements and exception approvals.
- Monitor profitability and loss ratios within the Private Client portfolio.
- Lead and mentor Private Client service brokers and support staff.
- Provide guidance on coverage wordings, endorsements, and underwriting nuances.
- Support cross-selling initiatives with Commercial Lines and Group Benefits divisions.
- Participate in executive-level planning and leadership meetings.
- Ensure all documentation and compliance requirements meet RIBO and insurer guidelines.
- Oversee proposal preparation, new applications, renewals, and endorsements.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records in Power Broker and CRM systems.
- Assist in refining workflows specific to high-net-worth servicing standards.
- Advanced knowledge of high-net-worth personal lines insurance products.
- Strong understanding of policy wordings, manuscript endorsements, and umbrella structures.
- Ability to negotiate effectively with insurers and senior underwriters.
- Strong financial acumen and understanding of portfolio profitability.
- Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal).
- High degree of professionalism and discretion when handling affluent clientele.
- Ability to lead, coach, and build a performance-driven team.
- Adept at managing multiple priorities with attention to detail.
- Minimum 7-10 years of personal lines experience, with focus on high-net-worth clients.
- Proven production history and established book of business preferred.
- RIBO License required.
- CAIB, CIP, CRM or equivalent designation preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Power Broker, DocuSign, Adobe Pro.
- Demonstrated leadership or management experience preferred.
