Job Description:
We are looking for a skilled and experienced Personal Lines Underwriting Supervisor to join our team in Vancouver, BC, in a hybrid work environment. This role is ideal for a seasoned underwriting professional with a minimum of 5 years in personal lines and prior experience in a supervisory role. The successful candidate will lead a team of underwriters, manage a portfolio, and help shape our underwriting practices to drive profitable growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Team Management: Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of personal lines underwriters, providing guidance on underwriting policies, risk selection, and performance goals.
- Underwriting Oversight: Review and approve underwriting decisions, ensuring compliance with company guidelines and adherence to regulatory standards.
- Portfolio Management: Oversee a portfolio of personal lines accounts, ensuring consistent underwriting practices and supporting profitable growth strategies.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline underwriting processes and improve efficiency while maintaining high standards of accuracy and service.
- Training & Development: Provide training and development opportunities to support team members in building their underwriting and risk assessment skills.
- Broker Relationship Management: Act as a key point of contact for brokers, assisting with complex cases, providing insights, and resolving escalations as needed.
- Reporting & Analytics: Prepare and analyze reports on underwriting performance, team productivity, and key metrics to support strategic planning.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in personal lines underwriting, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory role.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or a related field is preferred; professional designations such as CIP, FCIP, or CRM are highly valued.
- Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with a demonstrated ability to lead a team, manage performance, and foster a positive work environment.
- Analytical Skills: Proficiency in risk assessment and data analysis, with the ability to interpret data to guide underwriting decisions and improvements.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with team members, brokers, and other stakeholders.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in underwriting software and tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
