Our client in Markham is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their team. Reporting to the Accounting Leader, the Accountant will oversee accounting functions for designated profit centers, ensuring all tasks are performed in compliance with company policies and procedures.

Our client in Markham is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their team. Reporting to the Accounting Leader, the Accountant will oversee accounting functions for designated profit centers, ensuring all tasks are performed in compliance with company policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare journal entries and review general ledger and related financial statements for accuracy within set deadlines.
- Gather and analyze information for the preparation of financial statements, ledgers, and monthly reports.
- Prepare and/or review monthly bank reconciliations and address reconciling items promptly.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and perform related data analysis as needed.
- Prepare month-end reports and reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly accrual journal entries for expenses.
- Manage the general operation of corporate accounting systems.
- Assist with the preparation of audit schedules.
- Review and analyze general ledger account balances.
- Respond to inquiries from internal and external customers.
- Verify the accuracy of accounting data and recommend corrections as needed.
- Provide ad-hoc training and ongoing assistance to subordinates and new staff.
- Write and maintain procedures manual for corporate accounting, including workflow and procedure design for accounting clerks.
- Handle special projects as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 1+ years of experience in an accounting or financial role.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word).
- Experience in the Insurance industry software is a plus.
- Background in insurance is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Good analytical abilities.
